The University of Brighton Social Work department is seeking a new member of staff to join the Approved Mental Health Professional programme team. Your expertise and experience will contribute to the delivery of high-quality qualifying and continuing professional social work education in the School of Humanities and Social Science. The team is seeking a qualified AMHP, preferably with experience of supporting students in mental health practice, who would like to make the move to academia. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team of social work academics, based in a new home for the School at the Moulsecoomb campus in Brighton.
You should be able to draw both on foundational social work, and specialist AMHP, knowledge and experience as a basis for co-delivering the Post Graduate Diploma in Approved Mental Health Practice and the core qualifying social work curriculum. Applicants will be expected to engage with teaching, assessment, student support and development, both academically and on placement, and knowledge exchange/research.
The university is committed to an inclusive environment which embraces equality and diversity in our working, learning, research, and teaching environment. The social work team takes seriously its commitment to creating a learning environment which is anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive and to foster these attributes in our graduates. We especially welcome applications from people who are members of Black, Asian or Minoritised Ethnic groups. We are seeking colleagues who understand equality, diversity, and inclusion, and how these principles can be applied in higher education, and within social work practice settings. We value self-awareness, in terms of understanding of the applicant's own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege and stereotypes, as well as a willingness to challenge practices that present barriers to different groups in social work education.
The post available is part time (0.8 FTE). Applicants must be qualified social workers and Approved Mental Health Professionals registered (or eligible to register) with Social Work England. The start date will be 1st August 2024 and interviews will be held in April. We welcome applications from job sharers. Informal enquiries are welcome to Dr Kelly J Alexander, Social Work Subject Lead, via [email protected].
