Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Nursing (Education and Scholarship)

Job description

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

This new full-time post is available from January 2025 on a permanent basis.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

We welcome applications from candidates interested in working part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements.

Academy of Nursing

The Academy of Nursing within the Department of Health and Care Professions is entering an exciting new phase of its development. Our pioneering 4-year MSci (Hons) nursing programme offers students the opportunity to follow one of two pathways towards registration: Adult Nursing (Single Registration) or Adult and Mental Health Nursing (Dual Registration). Building on this solid foundation and our reputation for high-quality innovative programmes of nursing education, we are expanding our suite of programmes to include a new BSc and Degree Apprenticeship in Adult Nursing.

We are inviting applications from colleagues seeking a role as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Nursing who share our passion for designing creative, authentic nursing curricula that cultivate a spirit of enquiry, empathy, and engagement in our students. Successful applicants will be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), have experience in nursing education, and hold a Master's level qualification (or higher) with recent experience developing and delivering enriching educational experiences for student nurses. We are particularly keen to hear from Dual Registered nurse academics, although would welcome applications from colleagues with Adult Nursing experience, as well as those with experience designing, developing and delivering Degree Apprenticeship programmes.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a new 1.0 FTE Lecturer/Senior Lecturer with a particular focus on adult nursing.

The post will include:

  • Design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of study in Nursing at various levels including BSc/MSci and Degree Apprenticeship.
  • Working closely with the Director of Nursing, Programme Leads, and Director of Education and Student Experience (DESE) in the development and implementation of teaching and learning strategy.
  • Contribute to scholarship commensurate with career stage and engage in continuing professional development to continually enhance academic and professional practice.
  • Lead and develop internal and external networks to foster collaboration and educational innovation, and share information and ideas and to promote the nursing profession and discipline, the Academy of Nursing and the University of Exeter.
  • Take overall responsibility for the organising and deployment of resources within own areas of responsibility.
  • About you

    For a Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in academic area to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.
  • For a Senior Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD in Nursing, or equivalent, of the core knowledge relating to adult nursing in order to teach and support learning on adult nursing modules on or BSc/MSci and Degree Apprenticeship programmes.
  • Have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of a very experienced HE Teacher.
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.

  • Be expected to work towards Senior or Principal Fellow of AdvanceHE and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

  • Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.

    What we can offer you:

  • Freedom (and the support) to pursue your intellectual interests and to work creatively across disciplines;
  • Support teams that understand the University wide teaching goals and partner with our academics accordingly;
  • An Innovation, Impact and Business directorate that works closely with our academics providing specialist support for external engagement and development;
