Job information

Are you a talented computer scientist wanting to develop your career in Higher Education?

The School of Computer Science and Technology is growing and seeking to appoint seven committed and enthusiastic candidates for the role of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computer Science who will help deliver (lecturer) or lead (senior lecturer) the enhancement and delivery of the School's teaching, research, and enterprise activities.

The School of Computer Science and Technology (CST) not only provides students with the most cutting-edge knowledge of Computer Science and Engineering but also equips them with the ability to apply their skills to address real-world challenges, ensuring they graduate empowered to make positive contributions to society and the economy. CST thrives on providing an innovative education with a unique combination of practice and research-led teaching, ensuring our students have the most up-to-date knowledge of the field and are prepared to adapt to disruptive future landscapes.

CST places its students at the centre of everything. We are driven to improve all student outcomes, working in close collaboration with industry partners to drive positive destinations for our graduates and strengthen student support to decrease attainment gaps and drive continuation.

CST is home to six subject areas: Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity and Computer Networking, Creative Technologies, and Engineering. Our activities are supported by the University's significant investment (circa £40m) in a brand-new STEM building, which opened in 2019. This building comprises state- of-the-art teaching and research labs for computing and engineering students.

CST has a growing international reputation for providing high-quality education that is underpinned by impactful research. The School performed well on the recent REF2021 exercise and has a large suite of funded research projects, which it seeks to build upon.

The successful candidate will be required to make a major contribution to teaching and research within the area of computer science, software engineering and AI, reporting to the Head of School. Applicants should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: cloud computing, AI, programming, open-source development, mobile applications, and agile project management.

The successful candidate will be expected to be research-active in areas that align with computer science and software engineering. Candidates will typically be educated to PhD level in a relevant discipline (or have gained equivalent professional experience in industry) and possess sufficient specialist knowledge of computer science and software engineering to develop teaching programmes and the delivery of learning support. Ideally, candidates will have previous experience teaching cloud computing, AI, programming, and open-source development at a higher education level, as well as experience of engaging with employers on joint projects (which could include the development of training/educational courses).
