Senior Lecturer Role Profile (Word, 48.51kb)
An exciting opportunity to join one of the largest aerospace engineering departments in the country has become available as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering and Space Technology. You will be part of a dynamic and agile team that champions problem-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, with access to unique teaching and research facilities in the UK, including Kingston's Rocket Propulsion Test Laboratory and Industry Standard Flight Simulators.
In this role, you will deliver and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in three key areas of aerospace engineering: Computer-Aided Design, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in Aerospace Design and Space Technology. In addition, you will be expected to actively engage in research to enhance the University's reputation for research-informed teaching. You will also be supported in pursuing research opportunities that generate income, such as grants and industry partnerships, thereby helping to drive innovation and growth.
Additionally, you will support students through placements, provide pastoral care, and take on academic leadership and administrative responsibilities within the Department. This is a unique opportunity to develop your research potential and professional practice while being part of an aerospace engineering team that is known for leading industry informed teaching for employability.
The PersonWe are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with a passion for teaching and a strong background in Aerospace Engineering as well as an interest in Space Technology. Specifically, the vacant post seeks applications from candidates with experience in FEA methods, and its use in both aerospace and space vehicle design. Additionally, the prospective candidate is expected to be able to teach space technology related topics. You should hold a degree in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline, along with a PhD (or have submitted your thesis and are awaiting examination) in a relevant subject area. Equivalent relevant experience in the field may also be considered.
A recognised teaching qualification would be advantageous. If you have not yet achieved UKPSF recognition, you will be supported to do so through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching or Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework during your probationary period.
The ideal candidate will bring practical, hands-on experience with student- centred teaching approaches in Aerospace and the ability to teach using simulation software and hardware tools. The candidate will also have an interest in space technology and related areas. Experience with software packages such as ANSYS, SolidWorks, and MATLAB is highly desirable.
On a personal level, we are seeking someone who:
- Is passionate about delivering high-quality teaching through innovative, active learning strategies.
- Demonstrates strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and takes real interest in supporting students.
- Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to contribute with other areas within the Department as needed.
