We at Birkbeck, University of London, are thrilled to announce an opening for the position of Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies/Sociology. As Lecturer for the School of Social Sciences, you will be teaching for this coming year for 12 months, from September 2024.

As a Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies/Sociology, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching on the BA Psychosocial Studies and the BA Sociology undergraduate programmes
  • Serving as Programme Director for the BA Psychosocial Studies and overseeing the flagship undergraduate course
  • Teaching the following three modules:
  • Class (level 6, BA Psychosocial Studies)
  • Dissertation (level 6, BA Psychosocial Studies/BA Sociology)
  • Key Concepts: Global Foundations in Sociology (level 4, BA Sociology) plus others
  • Supervising student projects and dissertations
  • Contributing to the development of the curriculum
  • Engaging in public outreach linked to your academic specialism.
  • The ideal candidate for the Lecturer in Psychosocial Studies/Sociology role should have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) level in an appropriate specialism or extensive professional practice in a subject related area
  • Teaching experience at degree and/or postgraduate level
  • An understanding of different teaching and learning methods
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Organisation and administration skills
  • A commitment to working with diversity.
  • Remuneration

    £42,365 rising to £58,554 per annum. The salary, Grade LLEC, quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
