Lecturer in Modern History (post-1750)
The Department of History is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Modern History (post-1750), whose research exhibits a clear capacity to generate impact (defined as ‘the demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy') and attract external funding. Applicants with a track record of engagement practice, and research and teaching innovation, in one of the following areas may be preferred: digital humanities; history of media; public history; history and policy; participatory / co-production methodologies.
The post is offered on an open (ART) contract from September 2024.
You will have been awarded a PhD in an area of history relevant to the post and ideally hold an appropriate teaching qualification. The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for, and experience of, designing and delivering modules informed by their research interests. Applicants should seek to demonstrate how their interests and experience would contribute to one or more of our Stage One ‘World History' modules, our existing range of Stage Three Special Subjects and our Masters programmes and options.
Academic staff in the Department are internationally renowned for their research. We are active participants in the interdisciplinary Centre for Modern Studies and the Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past. In the Borthwick Institute for Archives, York possesses unique research collections.
The Department expects all colleagues to strive for a working and learning environment that is welcoming, fair, and inclusive for staff and students. Applications from women, people from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds, and under-represented communities will be welcomed. We also consider applications for flexible working. #EqualityatYork
