About ARU:
ARU is a global university transforming lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research. ARU holds a Gold award for the quality of its education, awarded through the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
ARU’s research institutes and four faculties bridge scientific, technical and creative fields. We deliver impactful research which tackles pressing issues and makes a real difference to our communities. Our academic excellence has been recognised by the UK’s Higher Education funding bodies, with 16 of our research areas assessed as world leading. We are the largest provider of Nursing, Midwifery, Health and Social Care students in the East of England, and we are also among the UK’s leading universities for degree apprenticeship provision, working with hundreds of employers across the UK.
About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced director, whether your passion lies in narrative, documentary, or both. Are you ready to pass on your skills in working with actors, scene preparation, scheduling and more?
Based in our School of Creative Industries on the Cambridge Campus, your priority will be teaching students the art and craft of filmmaking with an emphasis on directing. Using a range of digital cameras and software, you will help students develop from beginner filmmaking skills to an advanced understanding of planning and specific film roles. You will work with BA and potentially MA students and will contribute to classes that are broader than just directing. Your views on story and film development as well as your understanding and experience of working in the industry are also vital to success in the role.
With a degree or relevant professional qualification and a broad work history in the industry, including directing short films and broadcast television or features, we are looking for someone who is passionate and a great communicator in order to help students understand the technical and artistic elements of filmmaking and directing in particular. An ability to adapt to changing circumstances is vital, as is the creativity to develop new approaches to challenges within the university setting.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Heather Lilley, Head of School, at [email protected]
