Job description

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The above full time post is available from 15 August 2024 on a fixed term contract for 12 months in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

We welcome applications from candidates interested in working part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements.

The role

This full time post is primarily maternity cover, for a period of 12 months, for the research and education responsibilities of staff in the microbiology team at the University of Exeter Medical School's European Centre for Environment and Human Health in Penryn, Cornwall.

The post is situated in the Centre's successful antimicrobial resistance research group based in the Environment and Sustainability Institute laboratories and will involve teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and research support across a wide range of PhD and externally funded research projects including a large Horizon Europe project on the impacts of climate change on pathogen evolution and ecology in coastal environments.

About you

For a Lecturer post you will have:

  • PhD (nearing completion) or equivalent in microbiology.
  • Sufficient knowledge in microbiology to deliver teaching and contribute to research programmes.
  • Teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members.
  • An active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally with other educational bodies, professional institutions and employers.
  • The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development.
  • The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning.
  • Enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate programmes.
  • An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture.
