The post holder will provide vital support for all technology enhanced learning systems and develop digital practice across the University; support the development of digital literacy in both students and staff who teach and support learning; contribute to the integration of new systems, as well as being part of digital education projects; support the ongoing development of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) ensuring that it is fit for purpose; provide training for teaching staff in the use of digital systems and tools; and assist teaching staff in the develop of online learning materials.

    Job Title: Learning Technologist (Digital Practice)

    Location: High Wycombe (with travel to Uxbridge and Aylesbury campuses and partner institutions)

    Responsible to: Head of Pedagogy and Practice

    Job Purpose:

  • Provide vital support for all technology enhanced learning systems and develop digital practice across the University.
  • Support the development of digital literacy in both students and staff who teach and support learning.
  • Contribute to the integration of new systems, as well as being part of digital education projects.
  • Support the ongoing development of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) ensuring that it is fit for purpose.
  • Provide training for teaching staff in the use of digital systems and tools.
  • Assist teaching staff in the develop of online learning materials.
  • Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with school-based stakeholders.
  • Take a leading role in supporting the management of Technology Enhanced Learning projects.
  • Provide expert pedagogical advice, guidance, consultancy and support for academic staff and teams to integrate technological innovations into teaching activities.
  • Act as a contact for staff and student queries relating to learning technologies, provide guidance based on their specific requirements.
  • Provide advice, assistance and training to staff using VLE and other tools to help them identify VLE features and learning technology tools appropriate to the learning needs of their students.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of VLE and associated technologies.
  • Create documentation, resources and guides to support staff and students in their use of VLE and other e-learning tools and technologies.
  • Review materials on VLE and other e-learning tools and advise staff of best practice for effective use of VLE and other tools, as well as checking, editing and testing functions and features of content material created.
  • Develop interface designs and module area templates for VLE and publish/upload online learning content into the VLE.
  • Develop and maintain a reference bank of freely available educational resources and online tools which may be beneficial for staff and students.
  • Communicate with IT and Academic Registry staff to ensure consistency of information provided to academic staff and students regarding VLE.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of user issues regarding accessibility, inclusivity and usability to ensure VLE, online learning resources and associated tools and technologies are accessible to all users.
  • Participate in local and national VLE and e-learning networks to keep up- to-date with developments and trends in e-learning and emerging technologies that could support learning and teaching.
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.
