The Skin Innate Immunity and Inflammatory Disease laboratory lead by Dr Kim Samirah Robinson studies how our innate immune system utilizes pattern- recognition receptors (PRRs) to recognize specific molecular patterns associated with pathogens (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi) and other potentially harmful molecules. We aim to expand the knowledge of hitherto unchartered PRR in the human genome. For instance, for many of the putative PRRs, the ligands are not defined, and for most microbial effector molecules, the cognate sensor proteins are unknown. Our goal is to use this new knowledge to gain novel directions for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory skin diseases. The Hull York Medical School and associated York Biomedical Research Institute supports recognised leaders in pathogen biology, whose ambition is to carry out research that is relevant nationally and has global reach.
RoleThe successful candidate will join a young and vibrant research laboratory with the opportunity to contribute to our exciting portfolio of science and ensure the smooth running of the laboratory. We are looking for a detail- orientated person who has experience in basic molecular biology and mammalian tissue culture, ideally with skin biology experience.
