We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join the dedicated facilities team at the Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine.
The Centre for Human Genetics (CHG) is housed in the Building for Genomic Medicine on the Old Road Campus, Headington. Comprising comprises over 4,600sqm of laboratory and office space for the delivery of world-leading research into human genetic and genomic sciences.
The CHG houses a range of facilities and specialist equipment including optical microscopy, high-performance research computing, and a Functional Genetics Facility (FGF). The Centre's standard lab environment is biological containment level 2, while the FGF facilities include a containment level 3 lab environment.
You will be responsible for the management of all laboratory space operated with CHG, including Small Research Facility (SRF), acting as a source of expertise and advice to building users. You will ensure all necessary SOPs, RAs and COSSH paperwork is completed in line with departmental requirements and to comply with local, departmental and University-wide safety regulations. As part of your position as Laboratory Manager, you will act as the building Departmental Safety Officer (DSO) and as the CHG Biological Safety Officer, advising staff on all matters relating to the use of micro-organisms and genetic modification work.
It is essential that you are educated to degree-level or equivalent, or equivalent experience, and it is essential you hold NEBOSH qualification. You will have experience of running a biomedical laboratory environment, and experience of implementing Health and Safety procedures, regulatory compliance and knowledge of Health and Safety legislation as they relate to the scientific workplace. It is essential you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of managing a diverse team of laboratory support staff, along with the ability to prioritise own workload and to delegate effectively to other team members with a proactive approach to completing tasks promptly.
