We are now inviting applications for the position of IT System Specialist. The position is for a fixed term with a starting date in May 2024 (or as agreed) and ending on 31 October 2027. The position is located in the team of the IT Services at the University of Vaasa.

The University of Vaasa has established with nine other European Higher Education institutions EUNICE Network University where students, staff members and researchers can move seamlessly, study common educational offer and deeply collaborate. EUNICE provides a strong foundation for education and research, which solves challenges together with the industry, working life, and social and cultural communities. EUNICE is funded by Erasmus+. Your role

As an IT System Specialist, you work in IT services, whose aim is to offer modern and functioning technical solutions for research, teaching and learning. In addition, you cooperate strongly with the University of Vaasa's Education Services, where a team of EUNICE specialists are responsible for the whole alliance, and they also support you in your tasks. The IT System Specialist's most important task is to continue the well-started development of EUNICE Moodle and other tools and systems together with international EUNICE partners and their IT Specialists e.g., by ensuring Moodle-platforms operation and services, creating the necessary API, improving user interfaces, enhancing data collection etc. Coordinating the work of the group of IT Specialists who develop the EUNICE IT tools is also part of the job description.

Requirements

  • A relevant Master's degree
  • General knowledge of Higher Education information systems that support studying and learning (e.g. e-learning environments, video tools, information systems)
  • Ability to manage the development, maintenance and architecture of a large-scale IT system and service environment
  • Understanding of defining information systems requirements
  • Knowledge of modern and agile software development methodologies. Possible programming experience would be considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of data protection and security considerations in IT projects
  • Fluent oral and written English skills
  • In addition we value experience in project work and coordination

    The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System for expert and support staff. The monthly salary is based on job demand levels 8-9 (2 787–3 213 €/month) depending on the experience and skills of the person to be chosen. An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
