The OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program and Crop and Soil Sciences Department invites applications for one or more fixed term, non-tenure-track full/part time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2023-2024 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Program Director.

The primary purpose of the Instructor position is to teach courses on the La Grande campus. Instructors will need to develop and teach undergraduate crop and soil science courses and mentoring of students pursuing a Crops minor as part of OSU Agriculture and Natural Resource Program (EOANRP) at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) in La Grande, OR.

This position is housed and supervised by the Eastern Oregon Agriculture and Natural Resource program in La Grande, OR. The OSU Agriculture & Natural Resource Program at EOU is a cooperative partnership between Oregon State University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Eastern Oregon University. The OSU Ag & NR Program was developed to help serve the needs of the communities and entities of eastern Oregon and the Intermountain West. EOU has approximately 4,000 students. La Grande has a population of about 12,500 and is located about 260 miles east of Portland, OR, and 170 miles northwest of Boise, ID, the closest cities.

Key Responsibilities

90% Teaching/Course Development

Duties include development, facilitation, and delivery of courses and student performance assessment through evaluation and grade assignment of undergraduate and graduate students as assigned by the EOANRP Director and the CSS Department. Course instruction may include Crop Production in PNW Agroecosystems, Soil Science, Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems, Forage Production, Ecosystems of Wildland Soils, and/or Seed Production. Course options may also include collaborative courses with the Animal and Rangeland Sciences Department including rangeland ecology, restoration and management.

Courses will be primarily delivered in-person in La Grande but may also be delivered synchronously to the Corvallis campus, if needed.

10% Undergraduate Mentoring

This position also requires the advising and mentoring of undergraduate students to assist in the successful completion of their academic and research programs.

What You Will Need

Master's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Horticulture or a related discipline as appropriate to the teaching instructional task for all courses.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom, extension, or other educational settings.

Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
