Job description

The Governance Services team at Edinburgh Napier University play a big part in helping us achieve our accolade of #1 Modern University in Scotland (THE World University Rankings 2023) by providing corporate governance, information governance and complaints support services to the University, its governing body and other key stakeholders, supporting delivery of our strategy and the meeting of statutory obligations.

Data Protection is more than a compliance issue, it's all about people, and we currently have an opportunity for an Information Governance Adviser to work closely with our customers and provide an excellent, visible, pro-active, dynamic and professional support service by facilitating the highest standards of corporate governance and ensuring responsible compliance across a range of requirements.

The Role:

As Information Governance Adviser, you will be in an excellent position to use your knowledge, understanding and experience of Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation to provide high quality, flexible, pro-active professional support and advice to your stakeholders across the University.

This will give you the opportunity to use your excellent attention to detail and great people skills to set individual expectations, follow procedure, keep processes on track, ensure deadlines are met and communicate effectively with a customer service focus.

We anticipate that your experience of handling requests for information/advice and interpreting relevant corporate policies and/or legislative requirements, will have given you a reasonable and pragmatic approach, with a solutions- based outlook, to ensure efficient and compliant processes are in place using privacy by design and good records management principles.

Furthermore, this role will allow you to use your passion and enthusiasm for helping people to ensure that we are complying with information legislation. The work we do also means that you'll get to interact with colleagues across the University and be in the unique position of learning about all the different processes, activities and initiatives going on.

You will be fully supported in this rewarding and challenging role as activities across the University constantly evolve, providing opportunities for continuous learning and allowing you to make a valuable contribution to the wider University community.

Currently this role is delivered on a hybrid working basis. On campus delivery is predominately based at our Sighthill Campus, however the role will be responsible for services across all three of our campuses, so attendance at the Craiglockhart and Merchiston campuses will be required occasionally.

What we will need from you:

  • Educated to degree level with a professional qualification in an information governance area, or substantial relevant experience as an information governance practitioner
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation, coupled with demonstrable experience of compliance in these areas
  • Experience of handling requests for information and advice and interpreting relevant corporate policies and/or legislative requirements to apply to individual cases
  • Sound knowledge of Records Management principles and practice
  • We know that some candidates may be discouraged from applying if they don't meet every requirement. If you're excited by this job and the prospect of working at ENU but not sure you tick every box, we'd still encourage you to apply.
