    The Library is seeking to recruit 3 Information Assistants to join its Customer Services and Content & Open Research teams. The Customer Services team is responsible for the daily operational delivery of the Library's core frontline services, and our Help Desk offers support in person and virtually for library and IT queries. The Content & Open Research team is responsible for the acquisition and ongoing management of information resources and library collections, and for supporting researchers to make their research outputs as visible and openly available as possible.

    The Library's core values of customer focus, collaboration and continuous improvement are central to our supportive and empowering working culture, and we take great pride in the high quality services we deliver to our user communities.

    Role

    Roles are available as follows:

    We have 1 x full-time Information Assistant role available that will work across both Content & Open Research and Customer Services.

    We also have 2 x part-time (4 days per week) roles available that will work solely in Customer Services.

    All roles involve supporting the delivery of services within a busy, fast- paced and continually changing working environment, through a range of administrative tasks.

    The key responsibilities include:

  • Providing first-line Library and IT help, advice and problem solving through all communication channels, including in person, phone and online;
  • Checking supplier databases to locate items and verify details of requests; using judgement to determine appropriate methods of obtaining material
  • Recording invoices, cataloguing, checking prices and placing orders
  • Processing requests from members of the University and from other libraries to borrow material
  • Assisting with projects and the development of services to support customer needs.
  • We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a strong customer service ethos, combined with the ability to troubleshoot problems and use your initiative.
  • You will have the ability to work effectively with colleagues in a variety of contexts. You will be able to organise your own work and coordinate with others to achieve tasks allocated either to you or your team, to the required deadlines or service delivery standards.
  • You will be able to use and learn a range of systems, software and equipment (for example library systems, IT packages, digitisation equipment) to carry out administrative processes. Attention to detail and efficiency is essential.
  • You will have a good standard of education to GCSE/NVQ1 level (or equivalent) or relevant experience. Experience of working in an archive, library or museum service is desirable but not essential.
  • You will be flexible, adaptable and convey a positive attitude.
