  • Role Description

The University of York has set out its vision to become a “University for Public Good” in its 2023 strategy and in IT Services we are actively supporting that commitment. We're looking for individuals who want to be part of making a difference using technology to support our vision and to enact change in our services and how we deliver them. Working at a learning organisation, we can offer you a collaborative, flexible environment where growth is supported, teams care for each other and enquiring minds can thrive.

These roles exist with the IT Services department, part of the Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities DTEF, which is responsible for providing outstanding work, study and research facilities, as well as facilities to enhance the student experience, both on campus and online.

    Identity and Access Management

The IT Services department is critical to the delivery of those objectives, providing innovative, best of breed infrastructure and services that support all aspects of the customer experience. We are also on an Identity and Access Management journey; yes that does sound a bit cliché but here at the University of York we do have a vision for a simpler and more effective IAM service that makes onboarding our staff and students easier, more intuitive and accessible.

We want to reduce the ‘MFA burden' on everyone whilst maintaining good security practices that protect the UoY and know that the ‘need to know' principle is applied to the information we hold, be it world class research, student and course material or our staff and internal projects.

We want IAM to be at the core of what IT Services delivers to the university, underpinning University's core enterprise systems, such as the virtual learning environment, student record system, finance and HR systems. These are large, complex systems and we will need to work closely with other departments to integrate, adapt and develop IAM within these software applications to achieve our requirements and deliver an IAM service to support our position in a competitive Higher Education environment. We also develop several in-house products, with examples including our module catalogue, our staff directory and our student mobile app, MyUoY, that we will work with internal teams to integrate into IAM.

It is going to take dedication, perseverance and funding. So we already have the dedication as at all levels of the University we know we must change IAM to make it straightforward and more efficient. We know that is not an overnight story and will be providing a programme team to support the selection and implementation of IAM service. Lastly, we have spent some good time discussing the criticality of IAM with senior leaders and we have their backing and funding through our Integrated Infrastructure Plan to deliver this.

Through people progressing on to new roles inside and outside the University we are looking for people to fill the following roles to enable our IAM success.

  • IAM Manager
  • IAM Senior Engineer
  • IAM Analyst
