The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences (PLEN), Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as ICP- MS Analytical Chemistry Specialist.

About us:

Research and teaching at PLEN covers topics within Agriculture, Biotechnology and Environment. The department is divided into nine sections dealing with a wide range of subjects. Focus is on plants, animals, soil and microorganisms – from molecules through organisms to ecosystems. It is our vision to maintain and develop our position as one of the principal centres for plant science and related areas, based on excellent basic and applied research. The department hosts state-of-the-art infrastructure, unique field research facilities, and many opportunities for collaboration within the department and internationally. The ICP-MS Analytical Chemistry Specialist will be affiliated with the Section for Plant and Soil Sciences located at the Frederiksberg campus. We value strong collaborative skills and the ability to guide and inspire early-stage career scientists and students.

The ICP-MS Analytical Chemistry Specialist will support a range of different research project within the department. Our research ambitions are high and we strive to publish our work in top-tier journals. The research environment is vibrant, friendly, collaborative and international, consisting of scientists and students with diverse academic backgrounds such as plant science, molecular biology and chemistry. The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences is located in central Copenhagen at the Frederiksberg Campus. Copenhagen ranks among the most liveable cities of the world and has several times been voted the number one capital in annual quality of life surveys.

Tasks:

As ICP-MS Analytical Chemistry Specialist you will be responsible for method development, sampling, preparing, analysing, data processing and quality control of our ICP-MS based analyses. Moreover, you will be involved in maintenance of the instruments and other analytical activities together with scientific staff, laboratory technicians and students. It is important that you are fully updated on the most recent scientific advances made within ICP- MS based analyses and that you are able to efficiently adapt these recent advances within our facilities.

The analytical unit encompasses state-of-the-art equipment for multi-elemental analysis, molecular speciation analysis, elemental bio-imaging and stable isotope analysis using: ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IR-MS, ESI-MS and various hyphenations with Laser Ablation (LA) and liquid chromatography (HPLC/UPLC). The laboratories are well equipped with clean chemistry facilities such as clean rooms and modern sample preparation equipment.

Applicants with the following professional and personal skills will be preferred:

  • Academic background and substantial hands-on experience with ICP-MS based technologies.
  • Strong competences and track-record within scientific publication.
  • Experience with trace element analysis and clean chemistry approaches.
  • Experience with plant and soil analysis.
  • Strong competences with data processing, including confidence with Excel, R and imaging software.
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Service minded, motivated and conscientious personality
  • Terms of salary and employment

    The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

    Employment will be as academic employee or Special Consultant (depending on your qualifications). The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.

    UCPH is in the process of designing a new shared administrative organisation at UCPH, which is expected to lead to changes within the next 12 - 18 months. The purpose of the administrative reform is, among other things, to strengthen cross-organisational cooperation, increase efficiency, and ensure good career paths for administrative staff members at UCPH. The reform will lead to cutbacks on administration.
