How will you contribute? Do you want to shape the driver experience of the future?
This PostDoc position is part of a joint project with Goodyear SA and explores how to improve the understanding of how specific design properties impact on the subjective handling ratings provided by drivers. The project forms part of a research partnership between Goodyear SA and LIST. The project comprises of experts from LIST and Goodyear SA with external experts from leading universities. The research team spams Luxembourg, Europe and the USA and will make use of world-leading car simulator facilities. Work in the project comprises human-factors research, artificial intelligence and data analytics.
Measuring how drivers perceive changes in tire designs using subjective and objective techniques is a key part of the tire development process. With the decision on whether to develop and market a new tire design being partly dependent on the effectiveness of this process. Furthermore, in order to improve sustainability within the design process there is a need to reduce the number of iterations of physical tires, and the use of real-world test track facilities, and instead make greater use of virtual testing.
This Postdoc position will form part of a team, and you will have the opportunity to undertake work for both fully manual and increasingly automated vehicles. You will work alongside four PhD students who are developing new techniques to assess tire performance. Your particular role will be to work alongside them in conducting studies, while in particular exploring the relationship between aspects such as HRV, cognitive load, posture and subjective measures. You will lead the work on data fusion techniques, and with colleagues will develop data visualization approaches to improve the understandability of the results. You will also work alongside the AI researchers in the project to improve result predictability. There is also the opportunity to visit Goodyear USA, and work as part of a leading international team.
