  • About the Role The HPC (High-Performance Computing) Solutions Specialist is a key player in advancing high-performance computing service for the University of Melbourne and its collaborators. This role is dedicated to enhancing user experience by enabling both existing and emerging research computing initiatives. As a crucial member of the HPC team, the specialist ensures the seamless utilisation of computing and data resources, emphasising a commitment to exemplary customer service. With regular collaboration within RCS (Research Computing Services) and other Business Services units, this role shapes the future of high-performance computing at the university.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enhance HPC customer service support for UoM HPC, Research Cloud, and data storage services
  • Respond promptly to service requests, deploying system upgrades with minimal downtime
  • Monitor capacity and performance, fostering collaboration and effective communication with stakeholders
  • Contribute to a learning culture, acquiring new skills, and ensuring seamless operation through key organisational tools and environments
  • Who we are looking for You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer-centric interactions. You will also demonstrate expertise in managing and maintaining HPC systems, showcasing skills in software installation, configuration, build systems, environment modules, automated configuration, and version control services.

    You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
  • Familiarity with support services such as ServiceNow, Freshdesk, RT, Zendesk, or similar
  • Proven ability to provide expert advice and guidance on parallel programming techniques and best practices, such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, and OpenCL, to enable researchers to optimise their code for HPC environments
  • Strong working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Awk, Perl, Python, with a keen focus on debugging skills for programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Fortran
