Horizons Institute Internship Programme

Salary: Grade 3 (£12.21 per hour)

This role is open to University of Leeds postgraduate students only.

This role will be based on the University campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

The Horizons Institute provides a global platform for responding to urgent global challenges through bold and imaginative interdisciplinary research. Horizons focuses on building interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations, and enhancing interdisciplinary skills through its four core work streams: Headline Pillar (what comes after the UN Sustainable Development Goals), Challenge Pillars (interdisciplinary research networks of time, place, ageing, and global biosphere sensing), Global Academy, and Partnerships for Societal Impact.

The Horizons Institute seeks to recruit two interns or position holders who will support the Horizons Institute Manager with the logistics and delivery of core programmes, activities and events including the Horizons Institute interdisciplinary and international mentoring programme.

This is a fantastic professional development opportunity to gain relevant experience in the HE sector and experience of supporting interdisciplinary research collaboration and cohort building. You'll work closely with the experienced Horizons Institute team and liaise with our networks of interdisciplinary and cross-sector research partners, expanding your own networks at the University of Leeds and beyond in the process. You'll support the Horizons Institute to maintain up to date records of participant and partner engagement which will feed into the evaluation of our programmes and enable the Horizons Institute to showcase the broad range of interdisciplinary research collaborations and ideas the institute is supporting to respond to urgent global challenges.

Position holders will receive an hourly rate of £12.21 for up to 10 hours of work per week, over a period of six months (from February 2024). This role might suit a postgraduate researcher looking for experience in a professional services and interdisciplinary research facing role who is keen to broaden their perspective of what it's like to work in a collaborative HE environment.
