Remuneration: The successful applicant will receive a Research Living Allowance, valued at AUD$11,500 per annum 2024 full-time rate (indexed), paid monthly in Indonesian Rupiah. A tuition fee scholarship and a fieldwork bursary will also be provided to the successful awardee.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is interested in pursuing research that explores the intersection of women rights and popular culture (e.g. music, literature, films etc.) in post-1998 Indonesia. The research is expected to be transdisciplinary, building upon works in the fields of gender, policy and governance, social movements, culture, and media studies, and will aim to develop insights that can shape future policy making efforts in addressing the country's systemic inequalities and, in turn, advance Monash's Impact 2030 goal of fostering thriving, resilient communities.

Candidate Requirements
The successful applicant must be an Indonesian citizen. Interested applicants who identify as women or members of gender, religious, or ethnic minorities are highly encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have an excellent academic track record in one or more of the following: governance and policy studies, gender studies, and media and film studies. Competence in qualitative research methods is essential and quantitative skills are desirable.
Applicants will be considered provided they fulfill the criteria for PhD admission at Monash University which includes English language Proficiency skills. Scholarship holders must be enrolled full time and on campus in Jakarta. The successful applicant will be expected to enrol by January 2025. However, there may be some flexibility as to the date of commencement.
