The University Safety Office is pleased to announce that due to several new initiatives underway in our department our team is expanding. There are currently a number of exciting opportunities advertised to join our dynamic, growing team, including, Head of the Safety Office.

If you are looking for a role which allows you to have oversight and responsibility for the strategic direction of a department within a large, complex organisation, then Head of the Safety Office could be the role for you.

Would you like to lead and influence safety policy development, strategic plans for safety and safety communication within an organisation? Do you thrive on building, developing, and maintaining professional networks? Are you good at providing leadership and supporting staff in different sections to operate as a unit, with leadership and integrity, and a clear identity and strategic direction? If so, you are likely to be just who we are looking for in our next Head of the Safety Office.

As Head of the Safety Office, you would be the visible senior management presence in the Safety Office on a day-to-day basis, providing support, guidance and motivation to all staff and specifically line management to the section managers in the Safety Office.

You would have responsibility for the operational readiness of the Safety Office, ensuring it is organised effectively and functioning efficiently. This includes oversight of management processes, administrative and technical support, committee structure, recruitment and professional development, resources and resource deployment within the Safety Office. Through auditing and similar information-gathering activities, you would ensure that the Safety Office is provided with robust management information about the requirements of the academic University, strengthening the corporate oversight of the Safety Office and informing Strategy Management, Policy Development, Communication and Safety Training.

Do you have the necessary skills and experience to take on this interesting and diverse role? Are you a strategic thinker and problem solver with excellent people management skills and proven management experience? Do you hold a recognised health and safety qualification and membership of appropriate professional bodies? Can you demonstrate project management and implementation skills and show proven experience working with numerous stakeholders, with a variety of health and safety requirements within a complex organisation? Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
