Duration of Contract: Permanent position as an Academic Manager with appointment as Head of Architecture and Design on a four-year renewable basis, subject to performance
Salary: AM1, £66,444 to £73,401 pa depending on skills and experience (plus Performance Related Variable pay)
Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield, University of Hertfordshire
Four-year tenured appointment as Head of Architecture and Design
The successful candidate will be appointed as Head of Architecture and Design on a four-year renewable basis, subject to performance. There is no guarantee that this appointment will be extended or renewed beyond the four-year period and if it is not, the post holder will revert to a role commensurate with current responsibilities and pay.
Main duties and responsibilities
As Head of Architecture and Design you will be responsible for a portfolio of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes, assuming full line management responsibility for all the lecturers working on these courses and overarching responsibility for the students and student experience within the area. As an Academic Manager in the School, the Head of Architecture and Design role is one of strategic leadership, ensuring the highest standards of teaching, learning, enterprise (Knowledge Exchange) and scholarship in the disciplines.
You will be expected to devise and undertake actions that develop the work of the department, to include negotiating and meeting targets for recruitment, resource use and income generation, developing and maintaining industry contacts, collaborative opportunities and strategic alliances related to curriculum and industry developments, and initiation/ oversight of live projects.
Skills and experience required
You will demonstrate a high standard of relevant discipline knowledge and experience in Architecture and Design, with heightened specialist focus expected in one or more of the subject areas.
You will have a proven track record as practitioner / researcher, with significant experience of academic programme leadership in one of the group's subject areas in Higher Education.
Demonstrable experience of design and development of new courses and modules at HE level is expected, as well as experience of recruitment and progression activities.
You will have experience of line management duties in relation to academic staff, and will be adept in communicating vision for the role of the specific academic group and its future development. Your strong interpersonal skills and ability to create good working relationships will be complimented by an aptitude for initiative taking and a positive approach to problem solving. You will be able to deal with conflicting demands and priorities, and will work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
Qualifications required
You will hold a postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area. A doctorate in a relevant subject would be desirable, as would membership of Advance HE.
