Head of Academic HR

Social Sciences Division, 6 Worcester Street, Oxford

This post can be offered as an internal secondment opportunity.

The Social Sciences Division is seeking to recruit a maternity cover post holder for the Head of Academic HR, a pivotal full-time role which combines strategic and operational HR responsibilities.

Reporting to the Divisional Registrar with a dotted line to the Associate Head of Division (People), you will lead a professional and coordinated service to the academic departments of the Social Sciences Division, the Social Sciences Board and the central university in all aspects of the employment cycle of academic staff, academic title and reward schemes, and divisional office appointments. The divisional office is a multi-functional team with the HR needs of a small-to-medium-sized department.

You will ensure that efficient and effective systems and processes are in place to meet the needs of key stakeholders whilst ensuring compliance with employment legislation and University policy and procedure. By building excellent links with departmental colleagues, you will understand the issues they face, and provide flexible and solutions-focused support.

You will attend the Head of Division's senior leadership team meetings along with Associate Heads of Division, Divisional Registrar, and the other divisional portfolio leads for Education, Research, Projects and Planning, Finance, and EDI. You will also be a member of the Divisional Registrar's senior management team.

About you

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and qualified to CIPD graduate level or above, or have equivalent experience. You will have the ability to manage a senior policy portfolio at the divisional level of an organisation with autonomy and diplomacy, with excellent organisational and planning skills. You will have experience of managing and developing a team to provide a service, ideally HR-related, in a complex setting and the ability to develop constructive and influential working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the University.

What we offer

Your happiness and wellbeing at work matters to us, so we offer a range of family friendly and financial benefits including:

• An excellent contributory pension scheme

• 38 days' annual leave

• A comprehensive range of childcare services

• Family leave schemes

• Cycle loan scheme

• Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

• Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

Hybrid working arrangements will be considered in consultation with the line manager, but with the expectation of working two days per week based in the Divisional Office.
