The mission of the Green Bear Coalition is to improve UCA's environmental footprint and ensure a liveable future for all. The Green Bear Coalition (GBC) is a student-led umbrella organization for sustainability initiatives at UCA. GBC advocates, coordinates and supports sustainability efforts through collaborative programming with UCA departments and community organizations.

The ideal candidate is interested in the sustainability advancement at large and is an avid self-study, self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills. The Green Bear Coalition graduate assistant will report to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.

The Graduate Assistant will enhance their advising and student programming skills, learn best practices for student leadership and activities, apply classroom learning to projects and initiatives, and strengthen their administration skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Co-advise the Green Bear Coalition, including planning officer retreats and attending executive board meetings. Assist GBC members in maintaining and advancing the Lewis Science Center Atrium Garden Seed-to-Seed project. This includes garden work days (planting, harvesting, seed collection). Assist GBC members in maintaining current program collaborations with the UCA Biology department, UCA Outreach, Schedlers Honors College, Bear Essentials Food Pantry and Aramark. Assist with the planning and execution of programs such as the annual Spring Sustainability Summit. Manage GBC social media accounts. Develop partnerships with other RSOs. Some nights and weekend hours will be required. Additional duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Must be enrolled in one of the UCA graduate programs (with preference given to students in the College Student Personnel Services & Administration Program).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a student organization or volunteer organization.
  • Experience and/or interest working with college students in an advising capacity.
  • Demonstrated facilitation or event planning experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CubConnect is preferred.
