Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant for the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership &
Sustainability will focus on organizing, researching, and supporting
transformative social justice programming and services that will enhance the
University's and the Center's initiatives. Under the supervision of the
Director and Assistant Directors, the Graduate Assistant will ensure the
successful realization, assessment, development, and implementation of
programs and services focusing on social justice efforts both on and off
campus sponsored by the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership & Sustainability
and assists/supports other staff to ensure the goals and objectives of the
Center are met.
This is a student position open to current UIW graduate or doctoral
students.
Essential Functions
Assists with operational activities for the Center's efforts and
initiatives including but not limited to marketing and assessment.
Provides administrative support to the professional staff at the Ettling
Center in coordinating events, activities, and services.
Supports university and department efforts to enhance the UIW brand.
Assists faculty and other university partners with promoting leadership,
service learning, global missions, and civic engagement initiatives and
activities.
Conducts research on social justice and community service efforts,
progress, and measures impacts; submits a report at the end of the
semester on findings.
Assists in communication processes including the creation of online
communications, editing written materials, and working on designs for
publications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of social justice and community service efforts & initiatives.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage time.
Possess organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and
cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the
University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Current UIW graduate or doctoral student in good academic standing with
the University, enrolled in at least six hours in the semester or session
in which the appointment occurs.
Doctoral students in dissertation writing who have completed their minimum
dissertation enrollment and are on “continuous enrollment” status may meet
this requirement with one hour of enrollment.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in working with a non-profit or community-based
organization will be an asset
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Valid Texas and/or U.S. driver's license with the ability to be insured
through UIW's vehicle insurance carrier.
Work Hours
May work up to 25 hours per week.
Work schedule to be determined, based on academic student schedule;
Normal work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday with
occasional extended hours to meet departmental goals to include evenings
and/or weekends.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Ability to move about on and off campus.
This position may involve students performing duties outdoors for extended
periods of time for various recreational activities/events.
