Student Services Graduate Assistant (GA) Responsibilities

2023 – 2024

The Student Services GA is a valued member of the Department of Psychology and Counseling staff. This position's responsibilities are primarily focused on the graduate programs, but may also include support of general departmental operations. The following is a list of the major job duties of the Student Services GA.

· Respond to prospective students via phone/email

o Respond to basic questions about program requirements, admissions process, license eligibility, etc.

o Refer students to appropriate Program Director for additional information

· Meet with prospective students by appointment/drop in/Zoom

· Works under the supervision of DPC Administrative Staff to maintain and update the Graduate Students Data Base –this is the database used to communicate with graduate students throughout the year (it does not contain academic records).

o Revise for incoming students, don't delete anyone (move over to graduated)

o It helps to sort this list out by program in order to copy and paste emails for program directors.

· Assist with production of student handbooks

· Support the Administrative Staff with graduate application/admission process

o Provide update of application count to program directors throughout admission process and during month of December and January

· Support Administrative Staff with APA and NASP accreditation reports

o Qualtrics surveys

· Send out department emails as requested using graduate database contact list

· Assist Administrative Staff with marketing graduate programs

· Assist Administrative Staff with publicity related to department awards, accomplishments, upcoming events, and academic calendar events on televisions via flash drives

· Contribute to Departmental Newsletter regarding graduate programs

· Provide feedback to programs about student needs or ways to improve or best support prospective and current students

· Provide administrative support as necessary to Department Chair and Administrative Assistants (e.g., answering phones, filing, copying)

NOTE: Tasks outside this list should be discussed with the Department Chairperson prior to being given to the SSGA.
