This position (pending contract signing) is fully onsite at our Douglas College Surrey location to begin October 1, 2023 for the SEED Youth Employment Program.

The Role

The Facilitator/Career Coach/Job Developer position is twofold with responsibilities for:

  • facilitating two six week in class session that includes Career Exploration, Skills for Success, Job Search Strategies and Life Skills to prepare youth ages 16 to 29 years for work; and
  • locating suitable job matches to place and support youth in employment opportunities.
  • Responsibilities

    Intake/ Recruitment:

  • Assist with marketing and recruiting strategies;
  • Facilitate Information Sessions;
  • Conduct one to one screening interviews;
  • Case conference with program team to select suitable candidates.
  • Facilitate 6 week in class sessions to prepare youth for employment:

  • Facilitate career exploration and planning, action plan development, education and training research, labour market information, skills for success, job search and employability skills, basic computer skills, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and life skills;
  • Continuously review and update in class materials;
  • Administering and debrief Skills for Success and other assessment results to clients with a strength-based approach;
  • Identify and address clients' employment barriers, provide wrap-around referrals;
  • Schedule guest speakers and special events to occur in class such as an employer panel and community support provider panel;
  • Job Development:

  • Liaise with employer networks to identify suitable job opportunities for participants
  • Connect participants directly to employers for interviews
  • Provide ongoing job search support
  • Make suitable matches between employers and youth and document work experience and/or wage subsidy agreements;
  • Monitor Work Experience matches and provide support to both youth and employers.
  • Administration:

  • Monitor and track client progress providing monthly reports to the program manager;
  • Report and track participant outcomes and activities with accuracy;
  • Establish priorities, set and meet deadlines;
  • Contribute to quarterly and final reporting as required;
  • Collaborate with program team and assist to coordinate a calendar of events and activities, that include field trips and guest speakers;
  • Source innovative and training opportunities that meet the unique needs of SEED clients;
  • Adapt to change requirements;
  • Contribute to the Training Group's ISO quality management system;
  • Other duties in support of TG operations as required.
  • To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

    • A Bachelor's degree in a field related to social services / career development or equivalent combination of education and work experience; • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation is preferred; • Minimum 2 years facilitation experience delivering career development services to job seekers; • Experience working with youth with multiple barriers to employment; • Knowledge of BC Labour Market; • Knowledge and experience working with newcomers including immigrants and refugees; • Knowledge of Canadian workplace practices, community employment related resources and current labour market knowledge across a range of industry sectors; • Demonstrated ability to facilitate dynamic, employment focused workshops and meet targeted outcomes; • Strong organizational skills and solid classroom management skills; • Able to identify and address client needs and articulate them to other program staff; • Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills; • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; • Knowledge of Essential Skills/Skills for Success; • Proficient in internet research and knowledge of Microsoft Office; • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and calmly handle changing circumstances; • Travel within the Lower Mainland is required: access to a vehicle and valid BC Driver's license or reliable alternative transportation; • Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check.
