Executive Director, Employment Compliance

The University of Melbourne seeks an outstanding individual to assume the Executive Director - Employment Compliance role. In this influential position, you will represent the highest level of expertise, providing strategic guidance, leadership, and oversight to ensure meticulous adherence to all pertinent workplace laws, regulations, and the University's Enterprise Agreement.

The Role:

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you'll lead the establishment of a new function dedicated to workplace and employment compliance, setting the stage for a culture deeply rooted in integrity and accountability. Your mandate will encompass designing, implementing and enforcing innovative programs to instil a pervasive culture of compliance while offering unwavering support to uphold legal standards and the University's contractual commitments. Your leadership will drive excellence and foster best practices across the institution.

Relevant Experience and Qualifications

In the realm of compliance, training, and awareness, you'll ensure the implementation and enhancement of the University's Compliance Management Framework to align with employment-related legal obligations. You'll oversee internal workforce reporting, meet external reporting obligations, and design HR data governance frameworks. Moreover, you'll conduct assurance checks to uphold employment compliance, manage operational activities, and mitigate HR- related risks. This involves establishing an annual compliance work plan, guiding the compliance team, coordinating specialist advice, and advising senior stakeholders for informed decision-making.

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant tertiary qualification and possess extensive senior experience in compliance, risk management, or a related field. Demonstrated mastery of risk management, compliance, and governance frameworks in heavily regulated industries, as well as exceptional verbal and written communication skills, are essential. Agility in navigating evolving processes, a results-driven approach, and outstanding leadership capabilities are paramount. The successful candidate should also demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, sound autonomous judgment, and the ability to initiate and implement innovative ideas independently.
