  • Position Summary:

    Join the dynamic team at the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) as an Event Staff/Crowd Management member. Located on the campus of The University of Alaska Anchorage, AAC is a stunning 196,000 square foot facility that seats up to 5,000 spectators. AAC is home to the UAA Seawolves Men's and Women's Basketball, Volleyball, and Gymnastics programs. In addition, the AAC hosts music superstars in concert, world class comedians, family shows, and corporate and community events that bring the community together. This part- time position is an essential part of creating memorable experiences for event attendees.

    Duties:

    Providing a Safe and Enjoyable Environment • Assist with crowd control measures to include ingress and egress of venue • Serve where needed at each event including: gate posts, barricades, roaming, directing guests, backstage supervision, contraband searches, bag checks, parking lot supervision • Communicate and assist with needs from AAC management, UPD, and campus security • Conduct inspections of various posts throughout assigned area of venue • Communicate all incidents occurring during the event to event managers, UPD, campus security and AAC management • Respond to conflicts to provide resolution • Respond to emergencies, including assisting with evacuations • Provide break relief when scheduled to other event staff including briefing such team members upon their return • Protect guests/public and property as directed • Check identification and screen guests under/over 21 • Ensure alcohol consumption is occurring only by guests 21 and over and in designated areas • Enforce operating standards set forth by UAA and the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) • Aid guest services staff, vendors, and other AAC staff with other duties as needed Collaboration Between Departments • Assist with needs requests from UAA Athletic Department • Provide overnight observation of venue as needed • Performs other related duties as assignedEssential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • Utilize two-way radio including safeguard of such radio or other issued equipment • Professional appearance and ability to demonstrate superior customer service • Ability to walk significant distances, including up and down stairs, as needed to roam throughout the venue • Exhibit excellent observational and problem-solving skills • Work effectively in a team and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds

    This role requires good judgment, flexibility, professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, strong observation skills and vigilance

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    • Be at least 18 years old • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent (some college education is preferred) • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening • Attend and successfully complete required training as assigned

    Required Experience & Education:

    • Previous experience in event security, law enforcement, or a related field is advantageous • TAPS and/or TIPS certification strongly preferred • Possess strong physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods • Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules

    Salary Information:

    This is a part-time, temporary assignment with an hourly rate of pay of $20.27 per hour.
