We are seeking to recruit an Ethical Review Committee Secretary to join The Home Office Administration Unit within the Department of Biomedical Services. The department provides essential support to the University's world-leading scientists in performing their research activities involving the use of animals. Research conducted on animals, under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), requires a Home Office project licence.
You will be working closely with Research Services on international collaboration projects that involve the use of animals at overseas establishments and organisations as part of the oversight of the use of animals in research. The post holder will also work closely with Named Persons including Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers (NACWOs) and Named Veterinary Surgeons (NVSs), who are responsible for animal welfare, to ensure consistency in advice given to applicants and compliance with ASPA.
We are looking for someone who is educated to degree level or equivalent/relevant experience in a biological research area and has a knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
The post would be ideally suited to someone with experience of committee work, or similar regulatory processes, or experience of working under, or managing a project licence or similar, and looking to move from the animal research setting and into administration. This position is full-time, permanent, 37.5 hours per week.
