Salary: UH6 £31,396pa to £33,966pa with the potential to progress to £37,099pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

We have an exciting opportunity for an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer to join a new team with an ambitious agenda that is central to the University's Strategic Plan.

Main duties and responsibilities

We are looking for someone to join our team who will provide specialist advice, guidance, support and training to staff, managers, students and other stakeholders across the University. You will manage various projects to advance the wider Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) agenda, including undertaking research to inform policy, developing guidance and training materials, updating and maintaining the team's communication and engagement platforms. The postholder will contribute to and support the development of a variety of different initiatives and team projects, which include the Dignity and Respect Advisors, Allies programme and Bullying and Harassment Investigators training, to further promote our commitment to advancing equality of opportunity, embracing, and celebrating the diversity of our community, and fostering a cohesive and inclusive culture.

You will develop and support our staff networks and strategic business unit based EDI teams. You will plan, co-ordinate and deliver a calendar of diversity events throughout the year engaging internal and external stakeholders and promote EDI through a variety of media. You will also be required to undertake a range of administrative duties to support the Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and the EDI Office.

The role requires a high degree of motivation, initiative and independent decision-making, including leading projects from conception through to final implementation in-line with the department's longer-term EDI strategies. Working as part of the EDI Office you will represent the team at internal and external meetings ensuring collegiately and professionalism at all times.

Skills and experience needed

It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with staff at all levels as well as students and other internal and external stakeholders and work collegiately with team members across Human Resources.

Ideally, you will have an interest in and previous experience of working in an EDI role, working knowledge of UK equality legislation and how it applies in practice. You will need to demonstrate good presentation, training and facilitation skills and possess a sound understanding of management information including statistics, data analysis and reporting. You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to be flexible as well as also possess excellent IT and social media skills.

Degree or equivalent standard qualification, or equivalent experience
