  • About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Epidemiologist to join the Centre for Pathogen Genomics within The Peter Doherty Institute for Immunity and Infection, Department of Microbiology and Immunology.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of epidemiological training
  • Planning, developing, and implementing training and capacity building programs in the areas of public health epidemiology and genomic epidemiology across the Asia-Pacific region
  • Presenting results at local, national and international conferences when opportunities arise
  • This role will also work closely with the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL), that provides reference laboratory services for the state, national and regional public health community, with the MDU PHL Epidemiology Section responsible for analysis, interpretation and reporting of epidemiological, genomic, and other laboratory data to enable public health action.

    Who We Are Looking For You bring demonstrated expertise in infectious disease epidemiology and public health surveillance, complemented by experience analysing epidemiological, genomic, and public health data. Your knowledge and training in genomic epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and international health further strengthen your profile. Additionally, you excel in collaboration, working effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

    You will also have:

  • Master of Applied Epidemiology, or other tertiary qualification in epidemiology, public health, or similar, and equivalent work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ideally, experience in surveillance and analysis using genomic and other laboratory data, and experience in delivering training and/or mentorship activities

    This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
