Title: ENT Clinical Lecturer – Fellowship Position

Department: Department of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery

Tenure: 12 months (possible extension of up to two years)

Location: Beaumont Hospital

Reporting to: Prof James Paul O'Neill

Start date: July 2024

Beaumont:

The Department of Otolaryngology in Beaumont Hospital is the largest single provider of otolaryngology surgical primary procedures in the country. Within our outpatient clinic and operating theatre we review and treat over 16,500 patients a year. We also have a separate National Cochlear Implant Department which is one of the largest in the British Isles. Through clinical experience, research, and didactic lectures we strive to increase knowledge of otolaryngic disorders and their treatments for students and postgraduate surgeons at all levels of training.

RCSI recognises that excellence in research is critical to the quality of its educational activities, its credibility, and, overall, to its mission to enhance human health. Recently, RCSI has implemented a new research strategy that will build upon its strength in translational biomedical and clinical research to deliver transformational, high impact changes in health care. Targeting both Irish national and EU funding, along with increased collaboration with industry, is a major part of the RCSI research strategy. Forging increased collaboration between RCSI PIs and industry is of critical importance to achieving success in this area.

Teaching Undergraduate Education:

We are the national leaders in postgraduate otolaryngology education organizing weekly national teaching lectures for our trainees, grand round video conferencing and ENT surgical skills courses running all year round.

Currently Otolaryngology teaching provides undergraduate education for RCSI students. The format is a combination of lecture series and clinical attachments, which involves compulsory attendance at outpatient clinics, theatre allocation and team shadowing.

Students will have a dedicated clinical tutor and have professorial lead lectures. We are incorporating USMLE and Canadian ENT Exam questions into teaching to further prepare our students for international examination success. #rcsia
