Hours:

15 Hours per week

Job Purpose:

To provide electrophysiology research laboratory assistance.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • General laboratory help (e.g. physiological solution making)
  • HEK cell culture and transfection
  • Plasmid maxipreps
  • Electrophysiological recording in HEK cells or brain tissue
  • Processing and handling of animal brain tissue
  • Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder
  • Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of HEK cell culture and transfection and/or processing of animal brain tissue.
  • Knowledge of electrophysiological recordings (either patch clamp or field recordings)
  • Can plan experiments to test a hypothesis in a specified time frame.
  • Has experience in taking initiative to solve problems in experimental execution.
  • Can interact positively with team members.
  • Can present prior findings and provide critical analysis and future directions on prior research.
  • Desirable Skills:

  • Existing Health and safety sign off to work in B85 and electrophysiology laboratory.
  • Existing training on cell culture and/or animal tissue handling.
