    Spokane Falls Community College is seeking qualified candidates for consideration of employment as an Economics Adjunct Instructor in the Business Department.     The SFCC Pullman Center at the WSU Campus invites applications for an adjunct (part-time) teaching position in Economics. We seek to fill a vacancy for a section of Economics 202, Macro Economics, with in-person sessions on TuTh, 10:35 – 11:50 am, during the fall quarter, September 20 – December 15, 2023. Compensation for the course was $4,145.00 in the academic year '22-23. Continued adjunct appointments in Micro and Macro Economics are expected in winter and spring quarters, January 3 – March 21 and April 1 - June 14, 2024.

    The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Economics Instructor in the SFCC Business Division.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Prepare for and instruct college-level courses in Economics in face-to- face, hybrid or online formats based on need of the department.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
  • Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail, and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Provide timely feedback and support to students.
  • Maintain accurate records for course grades.
  • May participate in department and general faculty meetings whenever germane.
  • Maintain professional standards in interactions with the college community.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues, and related administrative processes.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (Minimum Qualifications):

  • MA or MS in Economics.
  • Prior teaching experience in Economics within higher education.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written English in a classroom and with other professionals.
  • Working/interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • Acceptance of and willingness to support the role that community colleges serve in higher education, and specifically the mission, values, goals and objectives of the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success in classes comprised of students with a wide range of abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (Desirable Qualifications):

  • PhD in Economics.
  • Additional experience in teaching a variety of teaching modalities, specifically hybrid/blended classes.
  • Prior community college teaching experience

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    This is an adjunct (part-time) position and requires on-location, in- person service. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

    CONDITIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices. Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug- free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

    Adjunct Faculty : Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
