We are seeking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated laboratory manager to join the Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University. This is an exciting time to join the EBRI team to deliver and support the evolution of one of Aston's flagship Research Institutes. We are currently developing a new vision and research strategy for EBRI which will reflect our growing ambitions and the importance of a hands-on authentic experience for our students and experimental translational research. This is a key role for the Institute designed to provide strategic and operational leadership for the development and delivery of technical services within EBRI.

The role will require working with a range of stakeholders including students, academics, researchers, and other technical staff; therefore, patience, flexibility and good communication skills will be essential. You will be expected to provide strategic direction to ensure technical services best support academic and research staff in delivering high-quality research and industry engagement, in a rapidly expanding research institute.

You will take overall responsibility for the management and supporting the maintenance of capital research labs and equipment, the financial viability of facilities, leadership of the technical staff and management and responsibility for safe working practices, in collaboration with the EBRI health and safety coordinator and the college health and safety business partner. You will work with colleagues across EBRI to identify new strategic equipment needs and best practices in the maintenance and usage of equipment.

You will also have responsibility for the management and delivery of strategic EBRI initiatives such as capital bids, and the recruitment and training of technical apprentices across the EBRI. As part of our commitment to advancing the status of technical staff, the role will have responsibility for supporting the delivery of the UK Technicians Commitment across the University, in collaboration with other technical leads.

You will engage with peers across the University and will engage with internal and external networks, ensuring EBRI is adopting best practice from across the higher education sectors and industry. Previous experience in a similar role would be desirable.
