    • Help shape the future of primary care and rural medical education Curtin Medical School is seeking an experienced and highly collaborative academic leader to join us as Director of Primary Care (General Practice, Rural and Remote).

    This is an influential role for someone who is passionate about preparing future doctors to meet the needs of diverse communities across Western Australia. You will provide strategic and academic leadership across primary care, rural and remote medical education, while building strong relationships with healthcare providers, communities, government and educational partners.

    A focus of this position is supporting Curtin's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program. You will oversee the program's educational delivery, funding and commitments, while working closely with colleagues at our Bentley campus and providing academic leadership and support to Curtin's Rural Health Campus in Kalgoorlie.

    As a member of the Medical School's Senior Leadership Group, you will also help shape broader strategic priorities and contribute to a collegial, inclusive and future-focused School culture.

    About the role As Director of Primary Care, you will:

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership across general practice, primary care, rural and remote medical education.
  • Support the RHMT program, ensuring high-quality delivery and compliance with funding, application and reporting requirements.
  • Provide academic leadership and support to the Rural Health Campus in Kalgoorlie.
  • Strengthen Curtin's rural health education and its contribution to regional workforce capability.
  • Grow and sustain trusted partnerships with rural and remote communities, healthcare providers, government agencies and other external stakeholders.
  • Advance primary care education and initiatives within the Discipline of Medicine.
  • Champion Aboriginal health education and advocacy, working respectfully and collaboratively to strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
  • Lead curriculum initiatives and pedagogical developments that enhance student learning, graduate capability and readiness for contemporary medical practice.
  • Promote teaching practices that embed cultural diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the curriculum.
  • Contribute to educational policy and professional discussions at state and national levels.
  • Mentor and support academic colleagues, including through peer review and the sharing of effective teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the leadership, service, engagement and collegial life of Curtin Medical School and the wider University.

    • About you You will be an established academic or clinical education leader who brings credibility, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to primary care and rural and remote health.

    Your leadership style will be relational and inclusive. You will be comfortable bringing people together around a shared purpose, navigating complex stakeholder environments and supporting colleagues to do their best work. Just as importantly, you will understand the value of listening to communities and building partnerships grounded in trust, respect and reciprocity.

    Selection Criteria You will bring:

  • A qualification in medicine.
  • A PhD and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, supported by a reflective and evidence-informed approach.
  • A significant contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning, including experience in curriculum development and unit/ course coordination.
  • The ability to lead major curriculum and translate strategy into meaningful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership within your discipline, together with a strong record of community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster a collegial and supportive working environment.
  • The ability to engage respectfully and effectively with students, colleagues and communities from diverse cultural backgrounds.

    • Role Requirements As this is a continuing contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction. While this is a full time position , part-time, job-share arrangements may be considered for the right candidate/s.
