Position Description Oversees the activities of the clinical nursing staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence and efficiency to accomplish strategic and operational objectives. Additionally, is accountable for employee engagement, adequate staffing levels, budget compliance, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Leads and manages all aspects of clinical nursing functions through the planning, directing, monitoring, coordinating, organizing, and evaluating of administrative operations for Clinical Operations/Services
  • Oversees and is responsible for all nursing Accreditation actions pertaining to or necessary to meet regulatory standards, policies, requirements and practices (i.e., Joint Commission, etc.)
  • Ensures coordinated plans of treatment, patient-focused delivery of services and cost effective utilization of resources and services. Consults with departmental medical directors to address patient care issues including but not limited to: access, clinic throughput, quality of care, skill-mix based on need, safety, and risk management
  • Responsible for ensuring all clinical nursing staff maintain regulatory and job-related licensure, certifications as well as updated completion of mandatory compliances. Ensures training, monitoring and educational initiatives for clinical nursing staff are implemented which secure compliance with ethical and legal business practices and accreditation/regulatory requirements
  • Promotes a nursing practice environment that empowers nursing staff to provide effective, compassionate, efficient and knowledgeable nursing care
  • Reviews, recommends and implements necessary operational changes in concert PLFSOM administration, Clinical Operations leadership, department chairs, medical directors and frontline management
  • Serves as primary nursing liaison to Alberta, Transmountain, Kenworthy and NE campuses as well as internal and external key stakeholders
  • Provides leadership and supervision to departmental nursing leaders. Performs annual evaluations, establishes performance goals/metrics, and issues coaching and/or corrective action up to and including termination
  • In concert with departmental administrative and medical leadership, develops departmental patient-centered, clinical nursing goals and integrates with other functions. Monitors progress to goal completion
  • Serves as liaison between staff, medical staff, and executive leadership. Engages and collaborates with physicians/providers to identify opportunities for improvement and program development
  • Develops and administer nursing education programs. Develops timely and effective orientation and staff development programs. Maintains a climate of learning that promotes collaborative experiences for nursing staff and students. Creates, adopts and implements best practices among clinical nursing staff
  • Establishes, builds and maintains effective work relationships with departmental patient care teams and leadership through collaboration, communication and transparency
  • Adheres to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSCEP OPs, etc.)
  • Personally demonstrates, displays and acts in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Advancement, Respect, and Integrity). Serves as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution

    Required Qualifications

  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. A combination of education and experience to equal nine years of which two are in a supervisory capacity. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
  • 5 - 7 years of progressive leadership/administrative responsibility within an academic medical center, health sciences center or multi-specialty ambulatory clinic setting
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical and nursing practice, education and administration
  • Experience with unit operations including human resources, financial/resource management, and compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate effectively with physicians, staff, patients/families and other internal and external customers
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas or ability to obtain a Texas license
