We are seeking a dynamic and internationally recognised research leader to join the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) as the Director for the Centre of Horticultural Science. This senior leadership role is pivotal to advancing UQ's vision of becoming a global leader in subtropical and tropical agrifood research, focusing on the sustainability and competitiveness of horticulture, agriculture, and food systems.
As a Professorial Research Fellow and Centre Director, you will provide strategic leadership and management to drive research excellence, industry engagement, and community outreach. You will play a key role in shaping the Centre's direction, attracting strategic funding, and building strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, funding bodies, and the broader community.

The Centre works in close collaboration with government, industry and growers to boost innovation, productivity and economic growth. Research areas include the breeding and production systems management for horticultural crops, plant protection, and emerging technologies.

About YouTo succeed, you will hold a PhD (or equivalent) and possess extensive experience with an outstanding research background in horticultural sciences, plant science or another related field. You should be a strategic thinker with a track record of securing external funding, generating revenue through sponsored research, and driving research initiatives that address global agricultural challenges. As a demonstrated leader, you will inspire innovation, research excellence, and growth across the Centre by fostering collaboration across researchers and engaging with industry and community stakeholders.
You will bring established national and international networks and strong relationships with industry, government, and professional organisations, with the ability to build and maintain partnerships that support research outcomes and enhance the Centre's reputation. An established international reputation, demonstrated through publications, committee memberships, and collaborative research, is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also essential to foster an innovative, inclusive, and productive workplace.
