POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY Office of Communications and Marketing works in partnership with the University's academic and administrative offices and the 25 colleges to promote CUNY's unique mission and transformative role as an engine of social mobility. The office includes eight divisions: Media Relations, Editorial, Social Media, Creative, Marketing, Multimedia, CUNY TV and Citizenship Now!. Together the teams manage all aspects of press and public relations, editorial content, art design, publishing, social media, advertisement, web development, TV, video and podcast production to tell the story of the premier urban public university in the United States.

The Digital Designer will report to the Creative Director and support the office with all design needs, especially graphic design and web design, while also helping to lead our office's conceptualization and creative processes. The Digital Designer will develop design for digital and print advertisements, including digital and print subway advertisements, out of home billboards, and ads for Facebook, Snapchat, Google, and more; design for organic social media posts for all platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, and more; design new CUNY apparel, swag, and other merchandise to reflect the University's latest priorities; as well as develop static and animated graphics, along with other digital visuals, for the office's social media channels, the CUNY website and additional outlets.

Other key duties include, but will not be limited to:

  • Maintaining the integrity of the University brand, following and enforcing all guidelines, while also planning new ways to inform the office's strategic vision for the University's brand and visual guidelines;

  • Working with the web team to design webpages and create prototypes that can then be built by the office's web developers;

  • Working with CUNY's 25 colleges to provide guidance and support on design best practices and constructive feedback on their larger creative strategy;

  • Conducting research on design and advertisement trends, and helping the office stay up-to-date on larger communications trends and campaigns;

  • Working with the rest of the Communications office to develop campaign concepts, advertisement ideas, and help guide the creative process for office priorities.

  • NOTES:

  • Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsitepresence.

  • Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day ofemployment.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field;

  • Concentration in Graphic Design, Communications,Web Design/Development or related fields preferred;

  • Strong organizational and project management skills;

  • Experience using graphic design software including the Adobe suite;

  • Experience in social media is preferred;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and independently lead projects to completion;

  • Effective written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong interest in media, news and current event ;

  • Professional demeanor and top-notch administrative skills;

  • Must be able to meet deadlines, be results-oriented, and thrive in a fast- paced environment;

  • Excellent research skills and organizational skills ;

  • Must be reliable, trustworthy, and able to handle high levels of confidentiality.

    Salary commensurate with education and experience.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022

    City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the Emblem Health HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

    After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period. If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day. Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period.

    An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to Emblem Health. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by Emblem Health before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the Emblem Health website.
