Digital Curator for Early Modern European Coinage 1500-1700

Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2PH

The Ashmolean Museum is recruiting a Digital Curator for Early Modern European Coinage 1500-1700 to support the digitisation process underway in the Heberden Coin Room, through the application https: // hcr.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/.

About the role

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Keeper in Medieval and Modern Coins, you will be guiding the different holdings in early modern coins of the department through the different stages of the digitisation process. This entails, variously, putting in good order the coin trays, photography and other data capture, researching the types according to the existing literature, verifying the provenances and other information, and making publishable online records of individual coins of the highest standard. For some of these activities you may be responsible for coordinating student placements/volunteers. You will also have to liaise with the donor for this post, who has a particular interest in early modern coins.

The position is fixed-term for six months. This is a part-time post that requires the postholder to work 18.75 hours per week.

About You

You will have a degree in history, archaeology, or related subjects, and have some experience in numismatics, and in using web-based applications such as https: // hcr.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/.

You will be diligent and diplomatic and hard working.

What We Offer

Our range of employee benefits and discounts include a generous pension scheme, staff discount in the Ashmolean Museum café and free access to colleges and Botanic Gardens with staff card.
