The Head of Department is supported in management of the Department by a Strategy Group, Teaching Co-ordinator, Chairs of Department Committees, Department Administrator, Deputy Department Administrator, and Principal Technician. The Knowledge Translation and Exchange Manager, to whom the role will report, leads the Knowledge Exchange and Communications Team and Plants @ Cambridge activities. The Digital Communication Coordinator is a key role in supporting the long-term development and success of the Department by leading its publicity activities and fostering communication to develop projects to engage the Department's research community. The role holder will be expected to write articles for the website and printed publications, monitor press coverage across all media, produce the Department's weekly internal newsletter, and support Departmental communications-related activities in general.
Under the guidance of the Knowledge Translation and Exchange Manager and Deputy Head of Department for Research, the role holder will carry out internal and external facing communications in order to promote the achievements and activities of the Department, by producing high-quality and engaging digital and social media content to ensure its leading position is communicated to diverse internal and external audiences and stakeholder, including students, academics, industrial funders and potential donors. The role holder will be responsible for improving the Department's outreach potential by raising its profile and increasing its visibility, helping to improve diversity at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Digital Communication Coordinator will also coordinate the Plants @ Cambridge Communicators Group, which brings together communicators from plant biology-related entities across the University (such as the Crop Science Centre, Sainsbury Laboratory, Botanic Garden and Herbarium etc) to increase awareness and support coordination of activities, such as events at each other's institutions and international days to plan communications for. The Plants @ Cambridge activity is led out of the Department of Plant Sciences, with the Deputy Head of Department for Research the current Director, supported by the Knowledge Translation and Exchange Manager.
