FTE: 1.0 FTE (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: UH8 £44,263 pa to £46,974 pa with potential to progress to £56,021 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane and de Havilland campuses, Hatfield (with the potential or some hybrid working around business needs)

The Deputy Head of Student Enquiries and Enrolment Team (Operations Manager) is responsible for overseeing the operations of both the Student Enquiries and Student Enrolment teams who together form the Student Enquiries and Enrolment Team (SEET). Both teams contribute to providing an outstanding student experience, with both teams playing a key and pivotal role during the early stages of the student journey. This position supervises and manages Team Leaders and work closely with the Deputy Team Leaders to ensure the day-to-day operations and forward planning of activity delivers effective and efficient service provision.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Deputy Head of Student Enquiries and Enrolment Team (Operations Manager) will be responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operations of both teams delivers an effective, professional, and student-focussed experience for students and stakeholders. This will require close working relationships with Team Leaders and their Deputies as well as positive, collegiate working relationships with peers within and across the Student Administration Service, Academic Registry, and the wider University.

As the service continues its transformational change journey, the Deputy Head will support the implementation of a range of service improvement projects and plan and deliver a range of quality assurance activity to monitor and measure progress of continuous improvement. The role will devise and implement strategies to continually improve data quality and be responsible for devolved budget monitoring, including that of seasonal staff and equipment budgets.

Skills and experience required

You will have administrative experience in a large, dynamic organisation, proven experience of managing a large team and experience of delivering training or presenting information to staff at a variety of levels. Excellent IT skills, including the use of Office 365 products, record databases and collaboration/ conferencing tools and proven experience of managing budgets are essential for this role. You will have the ability to work using own initiative, under pressure and to tight deadlines as well as excellent organisational and implementation skills with the ability to take decisions under delegated authority.

Qualifications required

Educated with a minimum of a degree or hold equivalent professional qualifications or have significant and relevant professional work experience

Hybrid working

When on campus working location will principally be based on the College Lane and de Havilland Hatfield campuses. Remote working is applicable depending upon service needs and associated demands. The demands of the role will require on-campus working during key periods of the academic year (including Semester A and B registration & start of term).
