About the Position This newly created position of Deputy Director, Technology & Cyber will play a vital role in the success of the DTS team and the delivery of Curtin's technology strategy. As a member of the DTS Leadership Team, you will lead one of the key portfolios supporting Curtin's digital transformation, with a specific focus on leading and managing our mode #1 technology services including Cyber Security, Enterprise Applications, Campus Technology (AV, Desktop, Infrastructure), and Service Delivery.

Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, innovative technology solutions that drive Curtin's day to day operations and are part of the foundations of our digital evolution, while fostering a values-led culture that empowers your team to meet and exceed expectations. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy:

  • As part of the DTS Leadership Team, contribute to shaping and delivering the university's digital strategy with the CIO.
  • Lead the Mode #1 portfolio, which encompasses operational technologies and the delivery of services critical to the university's daily operations.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration, ensuring that the team remains agile and future-focused.
  • Deliver a rolling 18-month plan of innovation, aligned with the university's long-term goals, and obtain quarterly CIO endorsement for strategic initiatives.
  • Operational Management:

  • Ensure that the portfolio aligns with Curtin's broader technology strategy and the Digital Roadmap, delivering value and meeting the needs of the university's stakeholders.
  • Manage resources effectively to meet future demands, ensuring that the team remains nimble and responsive to emerging opportunities and challenges.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the university, as well as with external vendors and strategic partners.
  • Oversee the implementation of technology solutions that are compliant with university policies, legal regulations, and industry standards.
  • Technology & Cyber:

  • Lead the development and execution of a robust cybersecurity strategy to protect the university's digital assets and ensure business continuity.
  • Oversee the management of enterprise applications and operational technologies, ensuring high levels of service availability and reliability.
  • Work closely with Mode #2 innovation teams to ensure that operational services are effectively supporting digital transformation projects.
  • Ensure the ongoing robustness, scalability, and security of all technology services, including disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • IT Culture & Mindset:

  • Lead and drive a positive transformation of the IT culture at Curtin, promoting a data-driven, outcome-oriented approach to decision-making.
  • Demonstrate leadership through behaviour, communication, and strategic thinking to instil a collaborative, high-performance culture within your team.
  • Implement performance tracking and reporting to measure the success of portfolio operations and ensure continuous improvement.
  • What We're Looking For Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications or significant experience managing a large-scale IT function.
  • Proven track record of success in leading cybersecurity, enterprise applications, and technology operations teams.
  • Strong experience in portfolio management and project delivery, particularly in large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
  • Extensive experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing leaders, with an understanding of agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leaders and manage complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial and budget management experience, with a focus on optimizing resources and driving cost efficiencies.
  • Desirable:

  • Experience as a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) or similar leadership role.
  • Experience as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) or similar leadership role.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in Mode #1 operational technologies and digital transformation.
