Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Four-year tenured appointment as Deputy Dean of School

The successful candidate will be appointed as Deputy Dean of School on a four- year renewable basis, subject to performance. There is no guarantee that this appointment will be extended or renewed beyond the four-year period and if it is not, the post holder will revert to a role commensurate with current responsibilities and pay.

The Schools of Law and Education combine exciting contemporary programmes with practice-led, opportunity-rich education. We work in close partnership with regional and national employers and provide some of the most innovative experiential learning opportunities in the UK.

Our School's programmes span a broad range of disciplinary areas including academic and Professional Legal Education, Initial Teacher Education at primary and secondary levels, Education programmes at all levels including courses for professionals and doctoral qualifications, and Criminology. New disciplinary areas including Policing come onstream in 2024. Our Schools employ over 150 academic and practitioner staff supporting 4,500 students on campus and another 500 studying overseas with our global partners. Our programmes are some of the best in the country with Initial Teacher Education regularly ranked in the top 3 nationally in the NSS. The schools are based on the De Havilland Campus with state of the art facilities including a full- scale replica crown court and immersive simulated learning suites.

Main duties and responsibilities

You will contribute to the Schools of Law and Education by providing excellent leadership as Deputy Dean of the strategic business unit.

The new role of Deputy Dean of the Schools of Law and Education supports the Dean in providing academic leadership and management. Key areas of responsibility include the development of school plans to achieve the highest standards of learning and teaching, research, knowledge transfer, scholarship and student experience across the full range of disciplinary areas.

You will have executive oversight responsibility for particular functions of the school's work including primary responsibility for leading the operationalisation of the school's strategic plans. You will lead our experienced Heads of Department and work closely with the Dean and Associate Deans (Learning and Teaching, Academic Quality, Enterprise); you will also build your experience working collaboratively across the University on various committees and projects.

Skills and experience required

We are seeking an outstanding person with proven senior level management and leadership skills with a proven ability to successfully motivate a multi- disciplinary team to consistently achieve substantial positive change. You must have knowledge and expertise within one of the school's discipline areas and a comprehensive knowledge of UK Higher Education regulation.

You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, allied to an ability to influence and harness the talent of others by building successful working relationships within the school, across the University and with external organisations.

You will be highly competent in analysing multiple sources of data to achieve evidence informed decision making that will combine with excellent organisation and planning skills to underpin the implementation of effective strategies for school success. Working within the School's Senior Leadership Team you will have experience of financial and resource management to support the delivery of strategic objectives; and be capable of upholding the University's values of friendly, ambitious, collegiate, enterprising and student focused.

Qualifications required

For this role you must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject to the school's disciplinary areas. A Doctorate in a relevant subject, or substantial industrial or academic experience is desirable. We encourage all senior leaders to commit to Principal Fellowship of Advance HE within 2 years of being in post with Senior Fellowship on appointment being desirable.
