The Director of the St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno and the Dean of the
Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University announce a selection procedure for
the position:
Department Head of International Clinical Research Center
The International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) at St. Anne's University
Hospital Brno (FNUSA) is a scientific research institution. We focus on
preclinical and clinical research, particularly in the areas of cardiology,
neurology and oncology, with the aim of improving patient care. In July 2022,
we became a joint workplace of FNUSA and the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk
University (LFMU) in Brno. We also have joint research teams with the
Faculty of Science of MU and the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy
of Sciences, and close cooperation with the Veterinary Research Institute
(VÚVEL) and the Faculty of Pharmacy of MU.
The Department Head position candidate must be a respected expert, independent
researcher and visionary with more than 8 years of international research
experience in respected universities, or research or academic institutions in
the Czech Republic or abraod, with excellent skills in scientific writing and
publishing, research design, leading research teams and organizations, grant
acquisition and management. A candidate should be a researcher with a
competitive track record in the following research areas: health sciences,
(pre)clinical research, cognitive sciences.
Key responsibilities of the Head of the department:
To manage ICRC and all activities of the ICRC research teams composed of
Czech and foreign researchers.
To define ICRC's long-term priorities, vision, and strategy based on its
potential.
To be able to coordinate strategic institutional grants (e.g. H2020,
large infrastructure grants, and consortium grants)
To make decisions on research budgeting (obtaining grants, contracts for
contract research and clinical trials). To coordinate the strategy for
obtaining grants.
To coordinate and oversee research and its overlap and synergies with
clinical practice, education and project administration at ICRC in close
collaboration with team leaders.
To coordinate the evaluation system together with the International
Scientific Advisory Board, implement the results of evaluations, and set
individual objectives for the research groups.
To manage the preparation of strategic grant proposals in collaboration
with other ICRC institutions and ICRC partners.
To promote close cooperation with the management of St. Anne's University
Hospital Brno.
To maintain and develop the ICRC's external relations in the Czech
Republic and abroad. To support existing international collaboration and
actively seek new collaboration partners. To present the centre at
international conferences, business meetings, etc. To promote the centre
to the public.
To act as the scientific and strategic support representative in political
negotiations between the hospital's management and the government in
obtaining stable financial support for FNUSA (ICRC) from the budget of
the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic.
During the selection process, the candidate will have the opportunity to
present her/his vision for fulfilling the responsibilities mentioned above.
Requirements for a declared position:
A university degree in medicine or natural sciences, followed by the
successful completion of a doctoral degree programme;
Demonstrable research management experience in cardiology, neurology,
oncology, biomedical engineering or related fields;
Strong leadership potential in relation to research management, centre
operations and finances;
A min. of 8 years of experience in leading a research team/organization;
The ability to conduct independent research;
Excellent results in publishing research papers with a high impact factor;
Experience in obtaining international grants (please provide a list of
successful grant applications over the last 8 years in which the applicant
has been a PI);
Very good command of both spoken and written English; Czech is an
advantage;
Moral and civic integrity;
Fulfilment of the prerequisites pursuant to Act No. 451/1991 Coll. (the
so-called Lustration Act); persons born after 1 December 1971 and
foreign applicants do not have to provide proof).
