  • About the Role This presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to support the Academic Integrity Office. In this important role, you will utilise your expertise to identify patterns and anomalies in data to support the detection of student academic misconduct. With a minimum of 3 years' experience, you will apply various statistical and data analysis techniques, source new data, conduct feature engineering and experimentation to uncover new indicators of misconduct and support university investigation capabilities. Additionally, you will collaborate with other members of the data team to transition features into a production environment, ensuring they are accessible for use in downstream Decision Support Tools.

    This role offers valuable experience working with senior stakeholders and across multi-disciplinary teams, contributing significantly to safeguarding the academic integrity of the University of Melbourne.

    Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyse new and existing data sources to assess their applicability to address the business issue.
  • Extract and manipulate data from a variety of sources and subsequently cleanse, standardize, scale, bin, categorise, tokenise, stem and transform it into a state suitable for further analysis.
  • Determine whether a given problem can be usefully addressed with analytical techniques and, if so, what further information or data is required to make this possible.
  • Present data findings to stakeholders and make recommendations.
  • Workshop potential indicators with stakeholders and test viability
  • Who we are looking for We are seeking an experienced data scientist who possesses creativity and forward-thinking abilities to confidently collaborate with our stakeholders and identify patterns. The ideal candidate should be flexible, self-directed, and an excellent communicator capable of explaining complex data and patterns to non-technical senior stakeholders.

    You will also have:

  • 3+years experience in Data Science, preferably in Fraud analytics
  • A sound understanding of statistical and analytical modelling methodologies, techniques, tools and platforms
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development and implementation of predictive risk models
  • Experience with a range of languages/tools/datastores that could include: R, SQL, Python, Git, Snowflake, AWS, PowerBI.
