Data Quality Manager

Job Title: Data Quality Team Manager

Department/Division/Faculty: Student Registry, AAD

Grade 8

Permanent

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

Department

The Data Quality Team (DQT) monitors the quality of student data in the student record system (SITS:Vision), runs programme set-up and system data configuration (e.g. annual rollover of records), compiles and submits 4 statutory data returns, works closely with Graduate Studies Assistants in Divisions and Departments to monitor key areas of postgraduate student data and coordinates and facilitates the University's Student Registration process.

The Data Quality Team Manager will split their time between line and team management, graduate data management, and statutory returns.

What We Offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

• An excellent contributory pension scheme

• 38 days annual leave

• A comprehensive range of childcare services

• Family leave schemes

• Cycle loan scheme

• Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

• Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working.

About the Role

An exciting new role is being created in the Data Quality Team, to provide management and oversight of the 6 person strong team, line managing three Analysts. The team is small and specialist and enjoys an open and collaborative culture with regular cross-team meetings and collective problem- solving.

In addition to line and team management, key responsibilities are split between graduate data management and statutory returns. The Data Quality Team Manager acts as a central contact for departmental and divisional colleagues involved in graduate data, designing and disseminating data quality reports and helping to steer operational policy and procedures relating to the student record. The post-holder will also be responsible for compiling and quality- assuring four student statutory data returns to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), supported by other team members. The returns are large (HESA Student has c. 3 million rows of XML data), and the quality of the data returned to HESA directly influences funding calculations, performance indicators and the University's standing in league tables. This is a high-profile exercise where attention to detail and strong data management skills are paramount.
