Position Summary Information
Position Summary The Department of Counseling & Development in the College of Education at Slippery Rock University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor with the qualifications to teach across the folllowing programs: MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education, MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education with College Counseling, and EdD in Educational Leadership and Administration/Higher Education Concentration.

As a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, SRU provides a low-cost quality education, making it an attractive choice for low-income, first generation, and other disadvantaged populations. SRU’s MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education program is one of oldest student affairs graduate programs in Pennsylvania. As such, the SAHE program has an active national network of alumni. SRU is located 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a region with numerous post-secondary institutions of higher education that support graduate assistantship and internship opportunities for students in the program. The MA in Student Affairs in Higher Education program engages students in a blended format using high impact teaching practices that promote deep learning and the application of theory to professional practice. The EdD program in Educational Leadership and Administration/Higher Education Concentration is a fully online program that focuses on the skills and knowledge necessary for a variety of leadership positions in educational settings.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person, blended, and online courses, advising students, and guiding research of doctoral students. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research while contributing to an environment of professionalism, collaboration, and collegial engagement. Candidates who are committed to addressing issues of access, equity, diversity, and inclusion within the field of student affairs/higher education are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Develop and teach graduate-level courses in student affairs/higher education (master’s/doctoral)
  • Teach and advise students (master’s/doctoral)
  • Supervise fieldwork experiences (master’s)
  • Engage in scholarly activities
  • Provide service to the profession, university, college, and department
Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate or ABD in Student Affairs, Higher Education or related field by August 23, 2027.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in student affairs settings.
  • Experience in teaching graduate students in student affairs/higher education or related graduate courses.
  • Successful performance in an on-campus interview and teaching demonstration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of active engagement and current membership with student affairs/higher education professional associations at the state, regional and/or national level.
  • Experience teaching and or advising Doctoral students in student affairs/higher education or related Doctoral courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of access, equity, diversity and inclusion within the field of student affairs/higher education.
  • Ability to identify, conduct, and disseminate a coherent and relevant research agenda
  • Experience serving on dissertation committees.
  • Effective use of evidence-based teaching practices for courses grounded in relevant skills and or theories
  • Evidence of prior service in leadership roles at the university and department level.
